About the 270 XT™ Awning Mk2
The awning is 2.3m in length, weighs only 27.8Kg and can easily fixed to most roof racks or heavy duty load bars using our Heavy Duty L Brackets, (sold separately), or to our Clamshell Roof Top Tents using the appropriate awning to tent bracket (sold separately). The 270 XT™ Awning provides an incredible amount of shade around your 4WD for you to set up your camp kitchen, or just a shaded seating/chill out area.
How is the 270 XT MK2 manufaCtured?
The 270 XT™ Awning is made in South Africa from quality components. The awning bag is 400gsm polyester rip-stop canvas with YKK Zippers.
In contrast to PVC covers, the canvas allows the awning to breath while keeping it dust/dirt free and moisture is able to wick out through the zipper reducing the risk of mould or mildew.
The rip-stop material on the bag also reduces the risk of large running tears in the bag as a result of contact with tree branches.
The canvas on the awning itself is a 315 gram polyester rip-stop canvas that is mould and mildew resistant.
The canvas is The Bush Company’s traditional olive green colour, and it is pre-treated during manufacture for water resistance.
Fitting the 270 XT™ Awning Mk2
The 270 XT™ Awning frame requires a fitment bracket attached to the stainless steel section no more than 200mm from the hinged end, there are 2 Heavy Duty L brackets supplied with the awning. The second bracket must be mounted no less than 1.3m from the bracket at the hinged end. To mount the awning to one of our rooftop tents you will need an Awning To Tent bracket which are sold separately.
What is the Structure of the 270 XT™ Awning Mk2 Made of?
The structure of the awning is made from an extruded alloy composite which has been specifically designed to provide the elasticity, strength and durability we required. The main bracket for the hinge is constructed from stainless steel providing huge strength. The arms on the awning have been gusseted for additional strength, which enables the awning to be fully free standing without any poles in even the very strong wind conditions.
We do not supply poles for the awning as it does not need them, but we do supply guy ropes and pegs for use in extreme wind conditions to prevent damage to your roof rack or vehicle. The guy ropes attach to heavy duty webbing loops that are incorporated into the ends of the arms and also midway along each canvas section.
In conjunction with the natural rake of the awning, the guy ropes should be used to prevent pooling of water on the canvas and to guide water runoff in preferred places. We do not recommend leaving the awning up unattended during snowfall due to risk of canvas stretching as a result of excessive weight.
Around the inside edge of the awning is a 50mm thick velcro strip which can be used to attach the optional awning walls enabling you to fully enclose the area to provide protection from the elements or additional privacy.
The awning is available in either a Left Hand Side (passenger side in South Africa) or Right Hand Side (driver’s side in South Africa) configuration
270 XT™ Awning Mk2 can be set up by one person
As you can see from the video the awning is easily set up by one person in about 30 seconds and the pack down is just as simple.
